Wholesale Energy Prices Rise as January 2026 Gets Underway

Wholesale gas and electricity prices have begun to rise as we move into January 2026 ( approximately 15% ) following a period where market rates were relatively low and stable. Increased winter demand, colder weather forecasts and tighter short-term supply conditions have all contributed to recent upward movement in prices.

Energy markets are naturally volatile, particularly during the winter months. Even small changes in weather patterns, demand levels or global supply can have a rapid impact on wholesale pricing, with movements in gas markets often feeding directly into electricity costs.

Periods of lower wholesale pricing can present valuable opportunities to secure competitive energy contracts, helping to reduce exposure to sudden market increases. Recent price movements highlight how quickly conditions can change and why informed, timely decisions are important.

As part of our ongoing market monitoring, we proactively contact customers with recommendations to secure a new energy contract. These recommendations are based on specific factors such as upcoming contract end dates, current wholesale pricing trends and supplier availability at that time. When we advise securing a contract, it is because market conditions and contract timing indicate it is the most appropriate action to protect against potential price increases. We may have already tried contacting you regarding this.

Our role is to continuously monitor the market, negotiate with suppliers and provide clear, up-to-date guidance based on experience and live market data. While prices remain below historic peak levels, the current upward trend reinforces the importance of working closely with us when making energy procurement decisions.

If you have already been contacted by us and would like more information. Or even, if you would just like to review your current contract position and discuss market conditions in more detail , you are encouraged to contact our team.

We are always happy to provide guidance and support to help businesses make confident, informed energy decisions.
